An open-ended making session for tinkering and project work
Our weekly Makers Meetup every Thursday night are a chance to :
- work individually or collaboratively on projects
- get technical support from other Makers
- share project successes (and failures) in a supportive group
- learn new things at your own pace (you don't have to be an expert !)
This is a friendly, supportive and collaborative environment for Makers of all skill levels. The main requirement is a desire to work on cool projects in a group environment.
We also want to stress * you absolutely do not need to be an expert to join us * - all you need is a curiosity to try new things and to learn as you go. This is not a class or a workshop -- you'll have to dig in yourself and get engaged in a fairly self-directed way. There are lots of self-learning resources that we can point you to. If you get stuck we'll be there to help.
As noted above, given the meetup time and the self-directed aspect, this is an event designed for adults. Kids are welcome, but only with an attending adult. We run other events throughout the year that we more geared towards the younger set.
Attendees are expected to bring their own projects and ideas to work on. Alternatively, you are more than welcome to learn the ropes of making at your own pace using Makerspace resources. These resources include some craft materials, programmable microcontrollers (Arduinos, Adafruit Circuit Playgrounds, ESP8266s), electronic kits and computers (laptops and Raspberry Pis). Some resources are also available for purchase.
Crafting tools such as glue guns, scissors, screwdrivers and the like are available for use. The more technical resources in the Makerspace, such as 3D printers, a laser cutter, CNC machine and other mechanised workshop machines are also accessible to those that have attended previous workshops or inductions on those machines and at the discretion of the convenors. Usage fees may be charged to cover the cost of consumables for some machines.
Limited project storage is also available, depending on the size and nature of project.
